How to Successfully Setup a Facebook Fan Page For Your Business
It is a MUST for any business to have a presence on Facebook. With over 800+ million active users per day and over 92% of all adults in the USA are on Facebook. Your business needs to be where everyone else is.
Don’t waste another day procrastinating on whether or not your business needs a listing on Facebook. It only takes less then 15 minutes to create a Facebook fan page for your business, but brings a lifetime of value to your business.
We broke it down into 2 easy steps that we will teach you in this blog that will help guide you through the process of setting up your Facebook fan page for your business.
Step 1. Classify your business
Head over to https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php to create your listing.
You will be asked to select one of the 6 type of pages you can create.
- Local Business or Place
- Company, Organization, or Institution
- Brand or Product
- Artist, Band, or Public Figure
- Cause or Community
Select the relevant type of page for your business listing. If you are a local business owner, then you would select “Local Business or Place”. If you’re a online store, you would choose “Brand or Product”.
In this example, we are going to use “Local Business or Place”.
After you have selecting what type of fan page you are going to create, you will be asked to choose the appropriate category and name for your page.
2. Setting up your new Facebook fan page.
In this next step, Facebook will ask you for a little information about your business. This is a 4 phase setup process
- Profile Picture
- Add to Favorites
- Preferred Page Audience
Let’s go through these phases together…
Your about section is a import section of your page. You only have 155 characters to explain what your business is about and why your page should matter to your audience.
Your profile picture on your Facebook fan page is your avatar. Depending on what your business is about, it is best to use your logo as the profile picture. By having your logo as the profile picture, you are building your businesses brand consistently. Here is a look at our Facebook fan page, you will notice that we have the icon version of our logo only, no text at all.
Add To Favorites
This is personal preference. I always add my pages to my favorites. That way it makes it easier for me to find and navigate to later on.
However, no matter what you choose on this step will not affect your business listing on Facebook.
Preferred Page Audience
This is the part that you want to narrow down your targeted audience to people that are going to be most interested in your product or services.
So if you’re a pizza take out restaurant that is located in Houston, Texas. Then you want to narrow your audience location to Houston Texas. You may even want to narrow the location down to your zip code only, depending on the type of business you have.
The next steps get a little more in depth on who it is that you will be targeting. If you already know this information, then great! but if not… Facebook provides a free tool that can help you discover who your ideal customers are. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/ads/audience_insights
If you want to learn more on how to use the Facebook Audience Insights tool, you can learn more on another article that we wrote “How To Use The Facebook Audience Insights Tool To Find Your Customer Avatar“.
Age range; Narrow down the age range of who your typical customer is. Again, the better that we can narrow your target, the better exposure that you are going to get from your ideal customers. In the example that we have below, we found that the typical art enthusiast that visit the art gallery in town is around the age range of 24+
Interests; You want to find passionate interests to find your ideal customers on Facebook. In the example below, we are wanting to target people that are interested in art. Therefor, we have input the following interests…
- art museum
- Bose Pacia Gallery
- Contemporary Art
- Contemporary art gallery
Notice that we have not used any broad keywords at interests in here. We want to find those who know their art, so we targeted other terms for art gallery that only people who have a passion for art would know about.
Language; We selected English (all) on our targeting. The reason I do not add in Spanish, Portuguese, French, or any other language is because I am creating this business page in English. As long as they can read and speak English, then they can read your Facebook page. No matter what their first language is. So you are still targeting multiple languages even though you are just inputting English.
After you have finished inputting the steps. Hit Save and let’s move on to the next step!
